We source our chicken from one farm in Leicestershire. The farm is Pasture for Life certified and rears truly free range, outdoor birds.
The Ethical Butcher Regenerative Standard

Better Meat Starts With Better Farming
At The Ethical Butcher, regenerative farming sits at the heart of everything we do.
We believe great meat should do more than taste exceptional. It should come from farming systems that improve soil health, support biodiversity, prioritise animal welfare and leave the land in better condition for future generations.
That's why we've helped create The Standard for Regeneratively Farmed Meat.
It provides a clear framework for farmers, gives customers greater transparency and creates a practical route for farms to continually improve over time.
What Do We Mean By Regenerative Farming?
Regenerative farming is an approach to agriculture that works with natural systems rather than against them.
At its core is healthy soil. Healthy soils support healthy plants, healthy animals and healthier ecosystems. They store carbon, improve water retention, support biodiversity and help produce nutrient-dense food.
For us, regenerative farming is not a fixed destination. It's a commitment to continual improvement.
The Principles Behind The Standard
Our Standard is built around eight core principles:
1
Healthy soil is the foundation of productive, resilient farming.
2
Minimising cultivation helps protect soil structure and the living organisms within it.
3
Reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides supports healthier ecosystems.
4
Living roots and plant cover help protect soil from erosion and improve fertility.
5
More diverse farms create healthier and more resilient landscapes.
6
Well-managed grazing animals play an important role in restoring soil health.
7
Animals should be able to express natural behaviours within well-designed farming systems.
8
Good farming should benefit both the environment and the people connected to it.
How The Standard Works
The Standard recognises that every farm starts from a different place.
Rather than creating a simple pass or fail system, farms progress through five levels:
Why We've Created It
As regenerative farming grows, so does the need for transparency.
Customers deserve confidence that regenerative claims are supported by real actions, measurable outcomes and independent review.
This Standard helps provide that confidence.
