The Ethical Butcher Achieves B-Corp Status.

We are proud to announce that The Ethical Butcher became the first and only butcher in Europe to achieve B-Corp certification (as of May 2023). This milestone is a testament to our commitment to balancing profits with purpose, ethics, and sustainability.

The B-Corp certification process is rigorous and challenges businesses to evaluate every aspect of their operations. For us, it was an opportunity to scrutinise our systems and outputs to ensure we uphold our values.

As pioneers in selling and marketing regenerative meat, we knew our product aligned with B-Corp's ethos.

Today, the majority of our business is owned by farmers—our founding partner farms—who champion and practise regenerative methods. They support us in making the regenerative dream a reality.

These partner farmers are fully committed to transforming industrialised farming into a force for positive environmental change. Our drive to shift economic structures mirrors the B-Corp philosophy, and we are thrilled to be part of a movement that seeks to “change the rules of the game” to create a better world.

The need for collective action to address society’s pressing challenges has never been clearer. B-Corp envisions an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy where businesses meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Achieving this vision will require collaboration across sectors, and we are ready to play our part.

What is B-Corp?

B-Corp Certification signifies that a business meets high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency. Certification requires companies to:

a. Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing a risk review.

b. Make a legal commitment by altering their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

c. Exhibit transparency by allowing public access to information about their performance, measured against B Lab’s standards.

The Ethical Butcher: A Proposition Aligned with B-Corp

At The Ethical Butcher, we strive to reconnect people with nature by championing regenerative agriculture. We are at the forefront of the "craft meat revolution," where animals are reared using regenerative farming methods to produce meat in the most natural way possible.

Our meat comes from farms that champion regenerative agriculture, embracing sustainable practices such as free-range, outdoor-reared systems, and minimising the use of soy where possible. These farms are dedicated to restoring ecosystems, enhancing soil health, and capturing carbon in the ground. They also work to reduce, and often eliminate, the use of chemical fertilisers. By actively reducing carbon emissions, these farms are taking meaningful steps to minimise the environmental impact of modern farming, bringing industrial agriculture back to traditional methods while leveraging technology to make it more efficient and suited to today’s demands.

We have built strong relationships with our partner farms and abattoirs, who share our ethics, standards, and commitment to promoting regenerative agriculture. Together, we are supporting a sustainable future and increasing the availability of ethically produced meat.
